Shelbyville Kentucky Historic District Commission

Historic District Guidelines

These Historic District Guidelines contain the principals used by the HDC to make decisions about
appropriate treatments for historic resources. The guidelines are generally based on the Secretary of the
Interiors Standards for Rehabilitation and specifically based on the types of historic resources associated with the city of Shelbyville.
The guidelines are comprised of five parts:

Part I: Introduction
Part II: Commercial Structures
Part III: Signage
Part IV: Residential Structures
Part V: Additional Guideline Considerations

These guidelines were revised in 2015. The revisions were made possible by a grant from the Kentucky Heritage Council, the state’s Historic Preservation Office.
